Is CHARACTER and REPUTATION one in the same? We had a conversation about this today and it was something I never really thought to much about. I have often heard the term "your reputation proceeds you." So is that because their character shows what was said about them (reputation)? This other guy said character builds reputation, saying they are the same.

One is the result of the other. I ask, can your character be flawed but your reputation be perfectly spotless? Meaning, you are really an ugly person secretly, but to the public eye you play a role you know they want to see. Wouldn't that mean one is not the result of the other? What does the outside world say?

“Your reputation precedes you” is often used when you’re meeting someone for the first time. Again, the person saying either heard, read or saw something about the person. A person’s character may not always be known to others if they do not encounter that person.

Since reputation and character are two different things (to me), one can be “flawed” and not the other. I do believe one can be an ugly person and still have a good reputation. Do you see where I’m going with this? It’s…
