I AM NOT A CHICKEN

I’m surrounded by a bunch of guys that don’t want anything out of this life except the bare minimum.

I was once told “birds of a feather flock together.” I thought on this statement for years and came up with this.

You have a chicken and a hawk, two birds. Why don’t they chill together? Because they have different outlooks of life, different skill levels and different agendas.

The chicken loves the bottom. It feels comfortable there….I don’t…anymore.

The chicken can’t even fly. It has a set of wings and only uses them at the bare minimum.

The chicken is ok sticking its face in the dirt and eating other chicken’s poop. The chicken is food, easy prey.

Now the other bird, The Hawk…the bottom is only a feeding ground for them. The top is where it lives and loves. That’s where I want to be. The Hawk spreads its wings and soars for miles above the chicken. It sees the world from a whole different perspective. It can see more opportunities instead of just what’s in its face, like its other feathered friend the chicken.

I used to feel out of place around certain groups of guys until I realized the chicken and the hawk issue. I have a different agenda now and a different outlook. I want to soar above these chickens.

I don’t feel comfortable at the bottom. I don’t like the bare minimum. So, does that make me an outcast?

With so many chickens around, you start to think that’s what we’re supposed to be. You start to believe that is what’s normal. You start to believe your wings are just for decoration and not a way to excel above and beyond. Some of these guys try to convince you not to use your wings because they don’t know how to use theirs.

I am not a chicken. I am a hawk and I will rise to the highest mountains. I will not be convinced that the bottom is where I belong.
